It is great to see another Volvo Ocean Race conclude with such excitement, and I don’t only mean the racing but also the planning for the future. I remember back in 2002 when the VO70 was announced in Auckland by Glenn Bourke… the fever around the announcement was palpable. All present were excited by the prospects of a new and exciting class, taking understanding and knowledge from the new crewed canting-keel boats such as Wild Oats X and what was being seen in Imoca at the time, but also with a view back to what had been learnt with the Whitbread/Volvo 60 era.
