Juan Kouyoumdjian was of course the designer behind Stephan Kandler’s provocatively fast IMS 50 Krazy K – the performance of which ruffled more than a few feathers at the penultimate Admiral’s Cup in 1999. More recently Juan has been spending a lot of time in Barcelona consulting to the French Orient Express Racing Team… dark horse of this summer’s Cup regatta

The America’s Cup is a game of designing for the usage and using of the design. One could wonder which one comes first but instead it is rather a constant spiral approach, looping together relentlessly until race day. On that day it is expected that every team will use their design to their fullest potential; this is certainly the case at the final stage of the competition when the designs of two teams, being sailed at their highest potential, meet in a match race battle. And to put things into perspective, the America’s Cup has always been won by the fastest boat.
