Polymorphous Italian designer Maurizio Cossutti hopes it may also prompt renewed interest in some more of the many great yachts defined during the Cup’s first golden age…

This July after a quarter of a century the sailing world will see the rebirth of one, for many the most, iconic competition: the Admiral’s Cup. Differing from the original classic format, the competing teams will not represent a national team but a sailing club, and in 2025 teams will comprise two not three boats each. The first offshore, traditionally the 225nm Channel Race, has been replaced by a shorter 36-hour sprint, but otherwise there is plenty of the original event in this new reincarnation… most obviously the Fastnet Race as the concluding high-points-scoring finale.
