In March the first of Saildrone’s new generation of Surveyor-class unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) was launched by builder Austal USA in Mobile, Alabama. Purpose-built for autonomous deep-water ocean-mapping missions and maritime defence and security missions, the new USVs are now being tested in secret by the US Navy.
