Well, this Vendée Globe has been a bit different. When the fleet began to roll past the halfway mark south of Cape Leeuwin the number of retirements could still be counted on one hand. No one should expect such remarkable reliability to be maintained to the end of the race but beyond doubt is that the second generation of fully foiling Imocas marks a giant step forward from the boats that tried to fly around the world four years ago.
