‘Ortac is a bold experiment,’ declared Yachting World in 1937. She was a Bermudan cutter, 49ft overall, just over 20 tons TM and 35ft LWL, which gave her owner the choice of racing in either large or small RORC classes. Uffa Fox called 35ft the ‘magic length’, praising the club for an imaginative regulation that had created the added interest of almost a class within a class, given the fair few boats built to the spec that year.
