While the BMW Oracle Racing 90 – later known by all as USA 17 – was taking shape in Anacortes, in northwest Washington State, Russell Coutts was organising the sailing team to train on both monohulls and multihulls. Quality racing of any sort would suffice to keep the whole team sharp and involved. And the monohull could have been reinstated if an agreement was reached. At this stage anything was still possible.
