Inheriting the baton

ROD DAVIS

I have had some exceptional mentors in my time. Disappointingly, looking back on those early days I did not realise, nor at the time even understand, that they were mentors. Sadly I did not thank them at the time and some have since passed away. The fact that I can see, albeit much later on, the positive influence on my life is a testament to what amazing mentors they where.

Some names you might know – Lowell North, Tom Blackaller; but other names you might not – Mr Kempff, Dick Deaver. Funny typing it now… Mr Kempff’s first name was Bee, but I never called him Bee, always Mr Kempff. Coming from a military family, an elder veteran teaching and mentoring a young teenager, first names were never used by the young teenager. But I digress.
